Galle is a historic port city on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, known for its fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Galle Fort, built by the Portuguese and later fortified by the Dutch, is a maze of cobbled streets, colonial houses, craft shops, and quaint cafes. Visitors can explore the fort's ramparts, which offer panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, as well as visit museums and art galleries. Galle is also a great base for exploring the nearby beaches of Unawatuna and Jungle Beach.
